Disclaimer
Clacks is developmental, experimental software. It is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, and no reliability is guaranteed. Read this page before running it for anything you care about.
Status
Clacks is under active development and has not reached a stable release. Behaviour, configuration, defaults, database schema, and APIs can change — sometimes in breaking ways — between versions. Features may be incomplete, untested, or removed without notice.
No warranty
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the software is provided without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, availability, security, and data integrity. The entire risk as to the quality and performance of the software is with you.
No guarantee of reliability
Nothing about the software is guaranteed. In particular, there is no guarantee that:
- mail will be delivered, received, or stored without loss, delay, corruption, or duplication;
- the server will remain available or free of downtime, crashes, or defects;
- your data will be retained, recoverable, or protected against loss;
- spam, malware, or abusive traffic will be correctly identified or blocked;
- the software is secure or free of vulnerabilities;
- upgrades, migrations, or restores will succeed or preserve existing data.
Database migrations are forward-only and are not reversed on downgrade. A failed or interrupted upgrade may leave data in an unusable state.
Use at your own risk
You run clacks entirely at your own risk. Do not rely on it as the sole store or transport for mail you cannot afford to lose, and do not use it for production, business-critical, safety-critical, or otherwise important purposes without accepting that it may fail, lose data, or become unavailable at any time.
You are solely responsible for:
- backups — keep independent, tested, off-host backups of anything you value (see Backups & restore); do not assume the software will preserve your data;
- security — hardening, patching, access control, secret management, and the security of the host it runs on;
- operation — monitoring, capacity, DNS, deliverability, and recovery;
- legal and regulatory compliance — running a mail server may carry obligations under anti-spam, privacy, data-protection, retention, and lawful-use rules in your jurisdiction, and complying with them is your responsibility.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will the authors or copyright holders be liable for any claim, damages, or other liability — including any direct, indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, or consequential damages, loss of data, loss of mail, loss of profits, or business interruption — arising from or in connection with the software or its use, whether in contract, tort, or otherwise, even if advised of the possibility of such damage.
Third-party services
Clacks integrates with external services (for example DNS, ACME/Let's Encrypt, Cloudflare, S3-compatible storage, and DNS blocklists). Their availability, correctness, terms, and costs are outside its control and outside the scope of this disclaimer.
If you do not accept these terms, do not install or use the software. By running clacks you acknowledge that you have read and understood this disclaimer.
